2005 Space Elevator Games

What is it?

The NASA/Spaceward Foundation Centennial Challenge is intended to encourage the development of climber technology for future space elevators.

When is the next competition?

August 4, 2006, in Mountain View, CA, near San Francisco.

Who's competing?

StarClimber and about 30 other teams: some corporate, some academic and some independent.

What are the rules?

Each entry must climb a 50 meter ribbon powered only by a beam of light. When each climber reaches the top, the light will be turned off, and the climber must execute a controlled descent. Climbers must ascend at an average speed of at least one meter per second. Climbers are rated by the product of their average speed and the amount of payload carried. It is up to individual teams to decide how much weight to place in the payload.

How can I help?

There are several ways to help. The quickest is to visit our T-shirt page and pick up a cool and educational piece of StarClimber apparel. We have some good benefits lined up for groups who wish to sponsor our effort. We can put your logo on our shirts or on StarClimber itself! Find out more on our sponsorship page.

Finally, if you'd like to offer comments or suggestions or simply say hello, visit our blog or write to us at starclimber05@gmail.com.
